Logarska Dolina Landscape Park is a pristine alpine valley famed for its stunning glacial formations, lush forests, and spectacular waterfalls, offering exceptional hiking and nature viewing opportunities.
Logarska Dolina Landscape Park is located in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps of northern Slovenia, near the border with Austria. The park encompasses the Logar Valley, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved glacial valleys in Europe, characterized by steep limestone cliffs, crystal-clear streams, and vibrant meadows. The valley stretches approximately 7 km in length, surrounded by peaks exceeding 2,400 meters, including the imposing Ojstrica and Planjava mountains. Its rich biodiversity includes classic alpine flora, endemic plants, and diverse wildlife such as chamois, ibex, marmots, and a variety of birds.
The park’s centerpiece is the Rinka waterfall, Slovenia’s highest waterfall, cascading nearly 90 meters over a sheer cliff, accessible via a moderate forest trail. Visitors can also explore traditional alpine farms, many of which produce local cheeses and honey, providing cultural insight and opportunities for agritourism. Hiking is the most popular activity here, with trails ranging from gentle valley walks to challenging summit ascents. The area is also favored for mountain biking, climbing, and winter sports like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Logarska Dolina has a long history as a nature reserve, first protected in the early 20th century, ensuring its landscapes remain largely untouched and sustainable for visitation. Its scenic beauty and serene environment attract nature lovers, photographers, and outdoor adventurers seeking a tranquil alpine retreat within Slovenia’s broader network of protected sites. The park’s location near the town of Solčava offers convenient access while maintaining a remote, wilderness feeling.
